High UV Levels Trigger Alert
Orm Bunthoeurn of the Phnom Penh Post reports that the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on August 17 issued a public warning concerning high levels of ultraviolet (UV) rays over the next several days. From August 18-24 between 10am and 2pm, it said, skin and eyes could be seriously damaged if exposed to direct sunlight for too long. The ministry cites research by the World Meteorological Organisation revealing that in Indochina from August 18 to 24, high levels of UV radiation will cause a greater risk to the health of people, animals and plants.
